Nothing Is Hidden in the $125

Rocket Lawyer deserves a compliment that half this market cannot earn. Their agent service is priced at $125 annually, and that figure did not budge across any of the membership levels we examined. There is no introductory rate doubling on the anniversary and no discount quietly expiring in month thirteen. What you agree to in the first week is what appears on the statement in year four. Whatever else follows, this is not a page about a company hiding its numbers.

The Question Is What Else You Are Buying

Rocket Lawyer sells a legal platform. Document templates, e-signature, attorney consultations, a library that keeps growing, and the registered agent service sits inside all of it as one component. Use those tools regularly and the subscription earns out easily, well past the value of the agent line on its own.

Never open them and the arithmetic reverses. You are then funding a toolkit you are not touching in order to receive a summons that could arrive through a $99 service instead. That is the only question this page is asking you to answer, and it is a question about you rather than about Rocket Lawyer.

A gap of twenty-six dollars a year is the slimmest margin anywhere on this site, and dressing it up as an emergency would insult your intelligence. Open the document library even occasionally and staying put is the better trade. If the last time you logged in was to buy the agent service, the trade runs the other way.

Who Colorado Lets Hold the Role

Both options clear the statutory bar without difficulty, so the law is not going to decide this for you. Under Colo. Rev. Stat. § 7-90-701 the role goes either to an adult whose home or workplace is inside Colorado, or to a business entity that is in good standing and keeps a place of business here, and consent is required from whoever accepts it. One candidate is excluded outright: the Secretary of State may not be appointed as anybody's agent, which forecloses the trick of aiming the role at the agency itself.

Colorado does permit a company to wind up serving as its own agent, which many states refuse, though never in a single move. Your registration paperwork is not allowed to name the entity as its own agent, so the sanctioned path runs through two filings: appoint someone eligible at the start, then lodge a second submission that moves the role inside the company. Two submissions, a published address, and a person at the desk through every business hour is a fair amount of trouble to dodge a $99 invoice, which is why most owners who price the two-step decide against it.

Agent Only, $99

That is the entire product and there is no tier above it. $99 for the year, $99 at renewal, no membership wrapped around it. Nothing needs downloading, because no numbered paper form exists in this state; business submissions all travel through the Secretary of State's electronic system, with the price shown on the published fee schedule. Pull up your entity, open the statement, put the successor's name and their Colorado street address in the agent section, pay ten dollars, and submit. Acceptance is what makes the change effective.

Because the state reads the filing as an affirmation that your incoming agent agreed to serve, the successor has to exist before the form does. Engage the replacement, file, watch for the amended record in the public entity search, and only then cancel the Rocket Lawyer subscription. Run that way, the Colorado record moves from one agent straight to the next with no unrepresented stretch in the middle, and you avoid paying two providers for an overlap.
